The 1010-4 serves as the interface between the control system and the axis drive amplifiers. It is responsible for processing the velocity and position commands from the CPU and converting them into the analog voltage signals that drive your servo motors.

Technical Distinctions: 1010-4 vs. 1010-5

Understanding the evolution of the 1010-series is critical for maintaining system stability.

• EPROM Compatibility: The primary technical divergence lies in the EPROM (Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory) chips. The 1010-4 utilizes a specific EPROM set designed for earlier control timing requirements. If you attempt to use firmware or EPROMs from a 1010-5 on a 1010-4 board, the axis control will likely fail to handshake with the CPU, resulting in "Axis Fault" errors.
• Component Architecture: The 1010-5 features upgraded gate array logic compared to the 1010-4, offering improved signal-to-noise ratios. This allows the 1010-5 to operate more reliably in environments with higher levels of electrical interference.

CPU Compatibility Matrix

The Axis Control board must be synchronized with your 1400-series CPU. Mismatched CPU/Axis board combinations are a common source of intermittent faults.

Note: For the 1400-5 CPU, we strongly recommend the 1010-5 (or later) control boards to ensure the internal bus speed of the CPU matches the processing cycle of the axis control.
