WHY BUY YOUR LOCKING DRAWBAR FROM CNCPROS

Fadal Locking Drawbar Assembly Kit (DRB-0003)

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

CNCPros is the exclusive supplier of this comprehensive OEM replacement kit, engineered to restore the drawbar sub-assembly of your Fadal CNC Machine to its original factory specifications. This kit is critical for the spindle's clamping mechanism, ensuring the secure and reliable engagement of the tool holder. By providing a complete set of precision-manufactured parts, this kit is essential for preserving tool-to-workpiece concentricity and maintaining the operational integrity of your spindle under high-stress machining conditions.

Enhanced Component Design and Technical Functionality

Each individual part within this kit has been meticulously engineered and sourced to superior specifications, ensuring the entire system functions as a cohesive, high-performance unit. The kit includes:

  • DRB-0003 Locking Drawbar Assembly: The drawbar assembly serves as the primary mechanical actuator, responsible for applying and releasing the axial force on the tool holder's retention knob. Its precise geometry and surface finish are crucial for a reliable clamp-and-release cycle, preventing tool pull-out and ensuring consistent clamping force throughout the spindle's operational range.
  • HDW-0195 Bellville Washers (Set of 47): This kit includes a full stack of 47 Bellville washers specifically calibrated for a consistent spring rate. The precise geometry and material integrity of these disc springs are vital for generating and sustaining the high clamping force required to secure the tool holder, a key factor in minimizing vibration and maximizing cutting performance.
  • DRB-0019 Retainers (Set of 2): These retainers secure the precision chrome balls, ensuring their proper alignment and distribution of clamping force within the drawbar mechanism.
  • BRG-0004 (Set of 4) & BRG-0005 (Set of 10) Precision Chrome Balls: These precision-ground, high-hardness chrome balls serve as load-bearing elements. Their dimensional consistency is critical for distributing the clamping force uniformly and ensuring the smooth, friction-free actuation of the drawbar.
  • HDW-0307 Hex Screws (Set of 4): These hex screws provide secure fastening, with their material and threading designed to withstand the operational stresses of the drawbar assembly.
  • HDW-0155 O-Ring (#114), HDW-0158 O-Ring (#122), HDW-0177 O-Ring (#111): The included O-rings are high-quality, application-specific seals. They are engineered to create a hermetic seal within the spindle, preventing the ingress of coolant, chips, and other contaminants that could compromise the drawbar's internal mechanisms and lead to premature failure. The included grease further ensures longevity and performance.

Belleveille Spring Calculation

How many springs should I put back into my drawbar?

Spring Calculations

Otherwise, a good rule of thumb is to have one spring peaking over the top of the spidle shaft and that is about as good as any farmer could get it.  Your drawforce for a non-locking drawbar (DRB-0030) is about 600 - 700 lbs.  For a locking drawbar (DRB-0003) you should see something around 1400 lbs or so.  Factory spec is 1800 lbs but I rarely see that in older spindles.

HOW IMPORTANT IS THIS POWER SUPPLY AND WHY BUY FROM CNCPROS

Technical Overview: The ELE-1071 (MFS-044) Low-Voltage Power Supply

In the complex electronic architecture of your Fadal CNC, the ELE-1071 (MFS-044) is the foundational source of life. While the main spindle and axis drives handle the heavy mechanical lifting, the ELE-1071 is the precision regulator that powers the "logic" of your machine. It converts raw AC input into the highly stable ±12VDC and +5VDC signals required by your control boards, sensors, and input devices.

Critical Operational Roles

The ELE-1071 does not simply "provide power"; it sustains the integrity of the machine's entire digital brain:

  • Logic Voltage (+5VDC): This is the heart of your motherboard, CPU, and memory. Digital TTL (Transistor-Transistor Logic) circuits are extremely sensitive; a fluctuation in this rail will cause CPU "hangs," parity errors, or corrupted data registers during CNC program execution.
  • Analog & Communication Rails (±12VDC): These rails are essential for your communication boards, analog-to-digital converters, and signal conditioning for sensors. The ±12V provides the headroom required for precise signal processing. If the -12V rail droops, your analog sensors will lose their reference, leading to "ghost" faults and erratic input readings.

The Importance of "Tight-Tolerance" Stability

In a CNC control environment, a power supply is not judged by its ability to simply stay "on," but by its ripple rejection and load regulation.

  • Voltage Ripple: If your power supply is aging, it introduces high-frequency "ripple" (AC noise) onto your DC rails. This noise acts as "static" on the data lines, which can lead to intermittent communication timeouts between your CPU and Axis Controller cards—the classic cause of "Axis Faults" that seem to disappear when you restart the machine.
  • Load Regulation: Your machine’s power draw fluctuates as it energizes relays, activates sensors, and processes complex G-code. A high-quality supply like the ELE-1071 must maintain steady voltage even when the system load spikes. If the voltage drops under load, the digital components may experience "brownouts," resulting in unpredictable machine behavior.

The CNCPros International Advantage: Engineered for Overhead

At CNCPros International, we recognize that the original power supply specifications were designed for a static environment. Over the years, your machine’s expansion cards and auxiliary devices may have increased the load on this supply.

That is why our ELE-1071 replacement is intentionally over-rated for the application. * Thermal Headroom: Our units are built with higher-capacity capacitors and cooling designs, meaning they operate well below their maximum thermal limit. This prevents the "heat-soak" failures that plague standard-duty power supplies, ensuring the unit lasts years longer in the harsh, dusty, and high-heat environment of a machine shop.

  • Transient Suppression: Our supplies include superior transient voltage surge suppression (TVSS) to protect your sensitive motherboard logic from the "noise" generated by your spindle drive and coolant pumps.
